I hope this newsletter finds you doing well. Summer has gotten off to a crazy start! It finally started warming up around the middle of June unfortunately the rain kept coming. Combination of high snow pack and lots of late spring rains and snow in the mountains caused some serious water issues! Our reservoirs are full and going over the spillways. I have never seen the North Platte River running as high as it got in the middle of June! The flows got over 7,000 cfs. This caused some damage to places along the river and many roads. The water is finally on it's way down. This is very exciting because the fishing is about to be better than ever! With the high flows so long it has really cleaned out the river and kept the water temperatures down. The water is also becoming gin clear below the dam. As this all comes together, a perfect dry fly storm will be created. We have been looking forward to this for month's now and is finally upon us. I was out with a friend last evening after I got done guiding to see if there was any dry fly action to be had and blind casting big foam grass hoppers seemed to be the ticket. We caught one fish that was in the 22 to 23 inch category on a very veracious take! The time is now to think about the best trout fishing you have ever seen! The great news is that although the dry fly fishing will be phenomenal, the nymph fishing and streamer fishing will be equally as good! The nymph fishing has been very good through the high water. We have been catching good numbers of huge fish everyday! As you can see by the pictures, there have been some rather large browns caught lately as well on streamers. The nymph set up has varied a little from spring, we have lengthened our leaders considerably and added weight. We have been doing real well on leeches, San Juan worms, rock worms, and PMD nymphs. The streamers we have been using are big black, olive, tan, or brown heavy streamers. Getting deep and slow stripping is a key with them! The recent hatch and dry flies have been PMD's, Yellow Sally's, Caddis, and a few BWO's still hanging around. Check your schedules and give us a shout!
