Really, Really, Really Big Fish

I hope this newsletter finds you doing well! We have been experiencing some of the best trout fishing i have ever seen! We are still catching lots of fish and some have been huge! We have landed a 27 plus inch fish every week! Our numbers are still good as well. Fisherman are hooking around 30-40 fish a day. The fish are averaging around 19-20 inches and really starting to pull hard! Our rigs haven't changed a whole lot. We are still fishing leeches, eggs, rock worms, and midges. The Rainbows are still spawning so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, be careful and don't fish the shallow riffles where these fish are reproducing. This is a wild fishery and we depend on the natural reproduction to ensure that we will have continued amazing trout fishing for years to come. If you see a cleared off spot in the gravely areas in running current in water that is less than 3 feet deep please stay back and let the fish do their thing. This area is called a redd and this is how you can tell where you shouldn't be fishing for the next couple of months. We all who enjoy this resource appreciate your courtesy. The river is starting to get busy and the number of boats have gone way up! It is crucial that everyone is on the same page to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and successful day on the river. If you bring your own boat and float please be courteous and use good river etiquette. When you get to a run don't run right down the middle of it. Also, don't dig your oars deep into the water column as it displaces fish. If you need to pass then do so on the other side of the river along the bank or on the inside of drifting boats so you aren't spooking fish into lock-jaw. Lastly if you aren't completely sure where the fish are holding in the runs start inside and gradually work your way out. Using this technique you will find them without spooking them first. All of the runs right now are holding lots of fish so you'll have the opportunity to catch fish all the way down the river without having to catch excessive numbers of fish per run. I try to get my guides to make a couple passes per run, catch 3-5 fish, then move on. Keep in mind conservation and preservation are the number one goals on this river and beating up a certain run over and over again isn't good for the fish or the whole river system. Lets all be conscientious and work together and keep this the wonderful trout fishery that it is. From now on we will be offering $350 float trips.
