And The Rains Came!!!

Well we have definitely had some good moisture. Bad news is that the river isn't fishable below Government bridge but the good news is that the Bureau of Reclamation shut the river flows down to 500 cfs. This has turned the fishing on the grey reef section absolutely epochal. It is probably as good as I have ever seen it. High numbers and huge fish are all jammed into a more confined area now which is making your chances of running a fly in front of their nose pretty good:) The good ol' rock worm in sizes 14-18 followed by a BWO nymph in sizes 18-20 on a 9 foot leader will be all you need. Try various BWO nymphs but they have all been working well. The best part is that lots of fish are looking up and we have been having entire days of dry fly activity. BWO's are the bug of choice. We have been using a larger size 14-16 parachute adams for the point fly and then dropping off a size 18 BWO behind it. Amazing!!!!!! They are tearing it up. We even caught a big rainbow and a parachute hopper that we were using for a point fly so the angler could see it two days ago. Truly something everyone should experience. You have all seen what kind of fish this river produces just imagine catching 50 of them a day on dry flies. Unfortunately this won't last all summer. They will have to bring the water levels up again but it won't be for a month or so. Then it will be time to start chasing huge browns with streamers and nymphing the lower sections towards Casper. This river this year will fish good clear through July. We will probably slow down a bit in August because of the heat but be back in action with the streamers and dry's from September 1st until mid November. This is definitely something very special and doesn't happen often so if you can break away and see trout fishing at it's absolute best give me a call and we will help you set something up. Hope you are all doing well and look forward to seeing you soon. Wear your sun screen and God Bless you all!
