Warm Weather Arrives and Look What Happens!!

Sorry it has been so long since I have updated the fishing report but we've been real busy catching tons of fish. We will continue to catch tons of fish but I will do better and update the fishing report more often:)
Looks like summer is here! What a change. We go from winter to summer within a day. I guess that's what you get in wonderful Wyoming. The river flows are up to around 2,300 cfs and temps. are still in the mid 40's. This is very good for the fish and fishing throughout the summer. We will still be able to fish and do real well through July this year. We are also opening up a new adventure that you all need to experience. We will be running an operation on the upper Platte out of Saratoga, Wyoming floating the Platte and Encampment. This is still one of the best freestone rivers in the country. Huge hatches for amazing dry fly fishing and extremely hungry fish get you high numbers of beautiful wild trout that will test the best fly rod made. A more detailed news release on this endeavor will be released to you soon as we will be booking that section up real fast. As for the Grey Reef the dry flies are already starting. I stepped outside the cabins last night before bed and caught three nice rainbows between 17 and 19 inches on a BWO dry. Just one of many attributes to staying at the Cowboy Drifter Cabins. Nymph fishing is still real productive as a lot of the fish are finishing up their spawn and are moving back down into the runs. We are catching several fish between 19-23 inches in our 9-11 hour day. You can expect around 50 hook-ups but these crafty trout with a lot of current on their side seem to win a few battles. Rock worms in various sizes from 10-18 and brown and natural leeches in sizes 6-8 are the nymphing set up most commonly used. We are also doing well with midge patterns in sizes 18-20 in the morning and BWO nymphs in the afternoon in the same sizes. Streamer fishing is also good right now when you can get a day where the water has decent clarity. Some giant browns are starting to be caught on the big nasty's. Big streamers dark in color seem to be the ticket. My personal opinion is that it really doesn't matter what color it is as long is it is in front of their nose. As I said before, the fishing should be outstanding through July this year and definitely the upper river would be a fishing experience of a lifetime trip for those of you who haven't done it and if anyone is interested in chasing those double digit browns with big streamers please contact me soon. This is the chance of a lifetime to catch the biggest trout you have ever caught and I promise the Cowboy Drifter Guides know how to get it done. Book your summer streamer trip soon because we are really getting busy. We will be getting into summer mode soon so you will need to check your calendars and let us know if we can help you set up a trip of a lifetime. Hope to see you on the water soon. God bless you all!
