Moving In With Pups On The Way!!!!

Well, we are finally getting moved in and settled down. It has been a long process but the end is in sight for the construction. We have moved into our house out here at Lusby and the rewards and peacefulness are well worth the wait. We are looking forward to sharing the experience with all of you and hope you get to enjoy the solitude here as well. The cabins will be open to guests after the first of the year. We are planning on attending the flyfishing show in Denver in January and will be taking bookings then. We anticipate the reservations will fill up very fast as we are already taking reservations for 2008. Truly a great environment with blue ribbon fishing just a stones throw off the deck of the cabins. Very scenic views of the river and surroundings from the decks and windows. You will have to see them to get the full appreciation of the experience here. Check your calendars and give me a shout to book your fishing trip and cabin reservations.
We will also be getting an addition to our family soon. Our two labs have made a planned connection and will be having a litter of baby labs in the middle of December. We are really excited to see how good these hunting pups will turn out. Truly some great genetics and personalities bread into these dogs. The parents have been phenomenal so far and I'm sure they will only get better with age. The mother is a full blooded registered black lab and the male is a full blooded registered yellow lab. We could really have a mix of colors here. It will definitely be hard getting rid of the pups so we would love to see them go to the best homes as possible. Check out the pictures of the parents on the home page soon and make your requests for these sure to be awesome pups.
As for the fishing, we are entering winter mode here which means colder temperatures but great fishing. The Bureau Of Reclamation conducted a fall flush this year and it has really gotten rid of a lot of the moss and cleared the river up. We are seeing several fall spawning rainbows on the reds mixed with a few of the giant browns that call the North Platte their home. Remember reproduction is very key here and letting the fish spawn and do their thing is imperative to the longevity of this river system. PLEASE don't fish the spawners and your rewards will be great for many years to come.
We have been doing quite a few trips lately and have several still on the schedule and our hot patterns have been this: Leeches in black and brown from sizes 10-6. The trusty rock worm has been our hottest pattern in sizes 18-6. It seems that the further down the river you get the bigger the bug seems to be the most effective. As the river continues to clear the fly size will go down. Midges have also been a good pattern early. Best colors have been black, brown, and red in sizes 20-16. Remember the flows are down to 500 cfs so you don't need to use a lot of weight but make sure you still have a long enough leader to get down in the deep runs. Long drifts down deep seem to be key. We are still seeing a few BWO's and are even catching a few fish on dry's in sizes 18-16. Keep your eyes out for sippers and you will get the opportunity to hopefully feed some of our big Platte River trout a tasty dry fly.
I will leave you with this: One of my best buddies Rob Coddington told me the other day, "You never know what the river of life has in store for you and if you hold on to the bank and hang onto now you will never get any better or any further along, but let go of the bank and float with high hopes and to the best of your ability, the current will no doubt ably lead you to things far more greater than you could imagine!" Take it as you will but what great words of inspiration they are. I hope you all take care of yourselves and loved ones and keep in touch. Let us know if we can help any of you with anything. God Bless!!!

Sorry, but I am having trouble loading pictures. I will get them on here soon.
