Man It's HOT! And So Is The Fishing!

Well, my wife and I made it back from Florida on our annual tarpon trip and to my surprise.....The fish were still biting. The water has cleared from our spring snow storm finally and fishing is good the entire length of the river. Strategies have changed a bit do to the low water and it's clarity up top. Fortunately it has made for some real good dry fly fishing on the upper stretches that a lot of people have never got to see. It has gradually been getting better each year and with the evolution of this fishery nothing ceases to amaze me anymore about this river. Water flows are at 500 cfs and are scheduled to go back up to normal within the next two weeks. This should cause quite a situation with the early moss build up we have. When they start pumping the flows up it is going to be like a second flush and I'd imagine the large quantities of moss we have accumulated will be busted loose and filling the entire water column. Don't quote me on that, it is only a prediction. Anyway, lets focus on now. Streamer fishing is hot right now as you can see "Streamer Stu" with 2 real nice browns caught on black rubber buggers on a size 4. Other great colors are brown, olive, and tan in sizes 4 and 6. Nymph fishing rigs have shortened back up with the low water and the bug sizes have have dropped as well. Rock worms (size 16-20,) baetis nymphs (size 18-22,) black midges (sizes 18-22,) and yes we are still catching fish on the ol' reliable leech (size 8.) Our dry fly rigs are 10 feet to a parachute BWO (size 18) and dropping small baetis nymphs (size 20-22) off those. Check out Lil' Willy Chapman and his first fish on a fly rod. Good Job Willy! And just to show you how early we start em at Cowboy Drifters, pictured below is the cutest lil' cowboy of em all....My little nephew Cael. He didn't catch any fish that day but did get to put his little hands on a couple of turtles and toads. Watch what you say about the picture of that beautiful lady in the blue....That's my wife. Just thought I would spice up the scenery a little. That's about it so keep in mind how blessed we are to experience the things we do on a daily basis and cherish each moment. I am truly lucky to have the opportunity to do this for a living and have such a wonderful wife who helps me along and supports what I do. Our excellent guide staff keeps us running and we should all thank them as much as any. Thank's guys and keep up the good work. It has been a very busy year so far and I hope you have all had wonderful trips with us. We do pride ourselves on provided you with the best experience you can possibly have and worn out or not we will continue to do that. Thanks for your business and let us know if there is anything we can do for any of you.
