Wind, Rain, & Cold Can't Stop Cowboy Drifter Fisherman
The weather has... I would have to say..... been a little tough lately. Extremly high winds, not real warm, and sometimes wet but the fish are still biting. Large crowds on the upper river have got us moving around a little bit and taking advantage of the entire river and it has been paying off. It's always great to take people new places and show them new water they have never seen before and catch big fish in the process. We have been fishing from Gray Reef all the way to town. Not all at once of course. We have spent some days the past week searching for more big browns and it has shown to pay off. Scott Rodgers landed a real nice brown on a big black sculpin pattern tied on a size 2/0 streamer hook, (big fly!) "Streamer Stu" stuck a good Cutt-bow below Gray Reef as well on a big black ugly. Streamers the past week have picked up a little and we are still chucking big (size 2/0-4) black, olive, and some tan streamers. Nymphing has been good! Where ever you go you are going to catch fish. 40+ fish days have been real common using the same ol' gravy train. Red Rock Worms (size 16-8), Leeches (size 6-8), BWO nymphs (size 18-20), San Juan Worms (size 8-10.) The water is up (2,000 cfs) and fish are definately moving in out of the fast stuff. Still need a long leader and plenty of weight but fish inside seams and you will catch fish. Anyway, it has been good to see some old friends this past week and even meet some new ones. We hope everyone had a great trip and a safe trip home. We always look forward to seeing you all and if there is ever anything we can do for you feel free to call any of the "Cowboy Drifters!" Just a reminder... the fall fishing here is out of this world and that schedule is filling up, so if you want to come experience the best streamer and dry fly fishing the west has to offer set aside a day or two and give us a shout.
