Would You Like a Little Snow With Your Fishing?

Ok, Ok, Ok........ I know it has been a coon's age before the last post
but I really have been super busy, and the older brother uses his computer illiteracy as an excuse. So that leaves me trying to get a fishing report in-between my 18 hours of school, teaching at a local elementary, guiding on the weekends (and skipping school during the week to guide), assistant wrestling coaching duties at Kelly Walsh High School, and most of all trying to spend time with my beautiful and loving wife leaves me little time, or I forget, to do the good ol’ fishing report. While Jason is off hunting deer, geese, coyotes, and…………………, well you get the picture. So, to the fishing.
The fishing is definitely starting to change. We are moving our way back up river to the Gray Reef section where the moss is actually thinning out very fast. We have had a tough fall as far as water clarity, but each day it seems to get better. With the reservoirs so low, especially Pathfinder, any wind seems to mix the lake up pretty good and give the water some discoloration. And as many of you know, we don’t lack the wind, but it is actually clearing up really nice. The fish are eating on midges (gray, black, red - size: 18-22) , the rock worm (size 16-12), San Juan worm, leach, scuds (orange, tan – size: 14-16), and the occasional streamer. We have downsized our streamers because the fish are not quite as active as they used to be due to the lowering of the water temperature. The nymphing is really effective on the Gray Reef section right now. We have been averaging around 40 fish days, and have been catching some huge fish too.
These pictures at the top of the page are from a rather cold day of fishing, but the big fish were eating thank God. I don’t think the temperature got above 26 degrees all day which really commends the Denver Boys on sticking it out. They had foot and hand warmers in, well almost ever part of the body imaginable. Lucky for me I was rowing and didn’t get as cold as the fisherman.
I will be on the river tomorrow and hope to get some more pics for you all. I will be signing off hoping to see you soon. Don’t forget to book your GOOSE HUNTS as the calendar in filling up.
