The North Platte is Full of Surprises

Well, once again I am really slacking on my fishing report but I am glad to say that I am done with finals and school is out for summer. Yipeeeee! So, that brings me to the other thing that has been keeping all of us at Cowboy Drifters extremely busy, "wackin fish". We are still catching lots and lots of really nice fish.
The egg patterns have seemed to slow down a little and most of the fish are done spawning and moving back into the main runs. With the egg pattern slowing down, the baetis are in full force. Our morning rig is a rock work (size 16), a grey/olive WD-50 (size 18-20), and a grey Johnny flash (size 18-20) is really working them over. We have still been fishing the inside seems since the flow is 2,439 cfs. The afternoon rig depends on the cloud cover and the hatch. You can keep the same stuff on all day if it is cloudy and the bugs are coming off. The high water has been good to us guides. I was conversing with another guide and we were commenting on if it has ever been this good in the past and we both concluded it is way awesome right now, well just like I always say......"this river never seizes to amaze me".
I would just like to say thanks to our guides and Cowboydrifter Die hards out there who have continued their support for our business. OUR guides are always working to get better, find new water to fish, and most of all do what it takes to make your experience an experience of a lifetime, most of the time being the first group of boats on the water and the last ones off.
