Research & Development

Hey fishin fanatics & friends,

Well, the Reef section is still producing some awesome fish. Today was another outstanding day to be on the North Platte. Chad Plummer, a fellow Cowboy Drifter guide, Dick O'Quinn, a good friend, and myself found ourselves out on the river for a little research & development. Just a day to get out and enjoy some time with friends and try some new patterns. We caught fish from the put-in to take-out on a variety of streamers and especially the good ol' "rock worm" and orange scud. Dick spent most of the day nymphing up some amazing fish while Chad and I got down and dirty slow strippin our streamers. It didn't seem to matter, streamers or nymphing, we seemed to be in fish all day. We couldn't complain with the weather since it is February and 45 degrees. Once again this river never stops amazing me. At one point Dick was saying that he didn't know you could catch fish like that in the middle of winter. Well it was proven today that is does happen. Well, I leave you with a couple pics to help get your next trip planned.

Our best bugs: Pine squirrel streamer: Olive/Black size (4-6); Olive/Tan flashabou Bucktail size (4); Orange scud (14); Rock worm (12)

See ya on the water,

Mark Hamrick
